Why Everyone Should Visit Cornwall

When a good friend offered a last minute opportunity to join her on a road trip to Cornwall, I jumped at the chance. Apart from a short visit to Newquay years ago, I have never been. I had heard so much good stuff about this little slice of land on the edge of the country, I couldn’t wait to get exploring.

Driving from London, we made good time, arriving only about 5 hours later (being an off-peak Tuesday in April probably had something to do with the lack of traffic). The journey was made up of cheesy sing-alongs, snacks and a lot of talking – I could see this was going to be a solid girly road trip.

As soon as we crossed the border into the borough of Cornwall, it felt like the roads swiftly quietened and turned from dual carriageways to winding country lanes with sea views. This was just how I imagined it would be.

Our base for the trip was the sleepy village of St Ives in a great little B&B called 3 Porthminster. We were greeted by the friendly owner, and her dog and shown our shabby chic room with it’s huge alcove window overlooking the town and sea. We wasted no time cracking on with the seaside essentials, walking into town and down to the beach for some fish and chips.

We had 3 days in Cornwall and in that time managed to fit in a couple of must-do sites like Minack Theatre and Lands End. But mostly our days were filled with walks, enjoying the views from benches, eating ice cream and…more walks. The sweeping views of rugged coastlines and turquoise sea seemed endless and the South West Coast Path, stretching the full perimeter of Cornwall, provides numerous hiking opportunities. Although I hadn’t left the country, I felt like I was a million miles away from home.

After just a couple of days, I had completely fallen in love with the place. We were undoubtedly lucky with glorious sunshine the whole time- but even in bad weather these views must be good and the small pubs, always equipped with open fires, even more cosy.

How has this little slice of paradise been on my doorstep the whole time without me knowing? Defiantly my newly found haven close to home.

(My first ever beach run….Followed by a (Seriously!) freezing cold dip. I had the beach to myself…)
