In addition to beauty, though, Bala Lake has tons of exciting activities for camping enthusiasts. This makes it an ideal destination for a memorable outdoor getaway. Here are my top recommendations for things to do in and around Bala Lake:

• Explore Bala Town: Start off by exploring charming Bala Town. You can stroll through its charming streets, visit local shops, and enjoy a meal at one of the town’s top-rated cafes or restaurants.
• Water Adventures: Renting a kayak or paddleboard is a great way to explore the crystal-clear waters of Bala Lake! You can even sail or boat if you’re feeling extra adventurous during your camping trip. I suggest renting your boats and other water gear from Bala Adventure and Watersports at this link. You’ll have a ton of fun!
• Fishing: Bala Lake is also renowned for its excellent fishing spots. Grab your fishing gear and try your luck at catching trout, pike, perch, and other types of fish. Many people visit this specific location for fishing, so you don’t want to miss out.
• Cycling: You can either bring a bike or rent one to cycle around the lake with. I also like to ride around the surrounding hills for a more high-speed ride. The scenic landscapes will make your journey truly memorable!
• Steam Train Ride: Take a nostalgic journey on the Bala Lake Railway. This steam train ride is great for families or anyone who wants to take a relaxing trip around the lake and surrounding countryside. You can also stop at the railway’s visitor center to look at the exhibits, especially if you’re into history.

• Learn about the mines: 45 minute drive away are the Llechwedd Slate Caverns where you can learn about the areas mining history in a fun and engaged way.
• Sit Back and Relax: Finally, don’t forget to take some time to simply relax by the water’s edge. You don’t have to be on the go 24/7 while camping in Bala Lake. With virtually no light pollution, you get a memorable experience camping at Bwch-yn-uchaf Lake Bala Campsite. Fall asleep to the sound of the nearby river and bleating sheep. Pitches are unmarked so you can choose the spot you like best and with a bit of privacy from others

There are nice facilities on site and its a very family-friendly option with a play area and football pitch on site. With the Lake less than a mile away, this is a great option for camping in Bala Lake.

2. Pant-Yr-Onnen Campsite

Boasting a lakeside location, Pant-Yr-Onnen is a great choice for camping at Bala Lake. The site sits on the southern shores, near to the town. Being so close to the lake, you can easily access sailing, canoeing, kayaking and paddleboarding…..and of course wild swimming!

This site is pet-friendly and family-friendly. It also allows campfires!

3. Glanllyn Caravan & Camping Park

Glanllyn Caravan & Camping Park is one of my top picks for lakefront location if camping in Bala Lake. The proximity to Bala Lake means you can wake up to breathtaking views every morning. Best of all, the campsite is well-maintained, and the staff is super friendly. 

In addition, if you really want to get into watersports during your trip I highly recommend going to this campsite. It offers the best access to kayaking, fishing, and other water activities. Just be sure to book early for those coveted lakeside pitches!

4. Tyn Cornel Camping
