As someone who spends a lot of time outdoors exploring trails, I know how critical the right footwear is. Whether you’re on a weekend hike, a mountain adventure, or pushing your limits on long-distance trails, your shoes can make or break the experience. In this review, I’ll dive into my thoughts on the adidas Terrex Agravic Speed Trail Running Shoes, which have recently been a go-to for my trail runs.

I’ve taken these shoes on various terrain, from muddy, slippery slopes to rocky mountain trails, and here’s my honest take on how they’ve held up.

Trail Performance

The adidas Terrex Agravic Speed is designed with trail running in mind, but don’t let that stop you if you’re more of a hiker, like me. They handle rough, unpredictable trails with ease, and their performance on mixed terrain really impressed me.

Traction

One of the standout features for me is the Continental Rubber outsole, which provides outstanding grip. When I took these shoes out in wet conditions, the traction kept me steady, even on slippery rocks. This is ideal if, like me, you often find yourself on trails where the weather changes quickly, and you need shoes that adapt well.

Agility

These shoes are lightweight and perfect for fast-paced adventurers. Whether I’m out on a shorter trail run or walking longer distances, I appreciate how agile they feel. They allow for quick footwork, especially when navigating tricky trails with lots of rocks and roots. If you enjoy moving quickly and want shoes that keep up with you, the Agravic Speed won’t disappoint.

Support and Protection

Although they are designed to be light, these shoes still offer solid support, particularly in the midsole. I’ve found them comfortable for mid-length hikes or runs, especially when you need a bit of shock absorption without the shoes feeling too soft underfoot. The protection they offer from trail debris, rocks, and roots is also impressive – particularly useful for those of us prone to the occasional stumble!

Comfort and Fit

Comfort is always a big consideration, and the Agravic Speed didn’t let me down here, though there are a few things to keep in mind.

Breathability

For someone who runs hot on long hikes or trail runs, the breathable mesh upper is a great. The shoes keep my feet cool and dry, even when the weather is less than ideal. If you’re planning a summer adventure or heading somewhere humid, these will keep your feet comfortable.

Fit

I do have to mention that these shoes run slightly narrow, especially in the toe box. If you have wider feet or like a bit more room, I’d recommend going half a size up. Personally, I enjoy a snug fit when I’m trail running, so this worked in my favour, but it’s something to consider if you prefer a roomier shoe. This is particularly relevant for those looking for women’s trail running shoes, as fit can be crucial for comfort on trails.

Breaking In

It’s worth mentioning that the Agravic Speed has a bit of a break-in period. They felt slightly stiff when I first wore them, but after a couple of shorter walks, they softened up and started to feel much more comfortable. I’d recommend wearing them around the house or on shorter trips before taking them on a big adventure.

Durability and Construction

These shoes are made to last. The combination of a Continental Rubber outsole and recycled materials in the upper means that the Agravic Speed is not only durable but also a more sustainable choice. As someone who tries to reduce their impact on the planet, I appreciate adidas’ efforts here. But there is still a long way to go.

Outsole Durability

The outsole provides both grip and durability, and it’s clear these shoes are built to withstand regular use on tough terrain. I’ve put them through their paces, and they’ve held up well, even after a few months of adventures. If you’re someone who needs shoes that can handle the wear and tear of regular use, these are a great option.

Upper Construction

The upper is made from recycled materials, which somewhat nods towards sustainability. Although it’s a bit stiff at first, it softens up nicely after some wear. The stiffness also helps maintain the structure of the shoe, providing support on more technical trails.

Things to Consider

No shoe is perfect, so here are a couple of things I’d highlight:

Laces

The laces on the Agravic Speed are a bit long for my liking. They tend to flap around a bit, which isn’t a dealbreaker, but I did find myself adjusting them more than I’d like. A quick fix would be swapping them out for shorter laces.

Weight

While these are lightweight for trail shoes, they’re slightly heavier than some other running shoes on the market. If you’re going on ultra-long distances and want something ultra-light, this might be something to keep in mind. That said, I felt the extra durability and protection they offer made up for the slightly heavier feel.

Final Verdict

For adventurers like me, who are constantly out on trails and exploring new landscapes, the Terrex Agravic Speed Trail Shoes are a solid option. They offer a great balance of traction, agility, and support, with enough durability to handle tough trails. While they might need a little breaking in, the overall performance makes them worth it.

If you’re looking for shoes that can keep up with you on mixed terrain and varied weather conditions, the Agravic Speed could be just what you need.
