I don’t know why I have such a love for the ocean but I just do. Growing up I never spent much time around water – apart from the odd sunny day trip to the beach with family – but I always had a draw and fascination with our seas and marine life.
I’d almost forgotten this side of me, living my adult city life, until 3 years ago when I signed up to a diving course on a whim and BOOM! My passion rocketed. I just HAD to make the ocean part of my life.
Straight away I began taking free online courses. Reading marine-related books and watching conservation films (get some inspiration here). Attending events and even signing up to a marine conservation course in Honduras.
I built up my skills and knowledge (and more importantly, confidence) until I felt like I was ready to take things even further. I no longer had to dream about being a marine conservationist I could be one.
I have launched an exciting new venture called Blu-ee (an acronym for Blue Experiences and Education) with the brilliant Jenny Hickman who joined me in Tanzania on my Whale Shark Expedition.
Our mission is to inspire ocean lovers to find their voices and to realise the important role they have to play in protecting our seas.
We’ve got lots of ideas on where we want to take Blu-ee but for now we will be putting all our efforts into establishing our flagship event….
The Blu-ee Festival is an ocean conservation festival taking place this November in the UK.
Set over a weekend on the Swanage coastline, there will be a series of activities and talks from marine life lectures, conservationist stories to survey workshops. It will be the perfect opportunity
Are you an ocean lover? If so then I hope you’ll be joining us! This really is going to be any water babies dream weekend.
